Living near JHMI
Okay, let's get some things straight.   The neighborhoods directly around JHMI, in the past have not been good.  For many years, East Baltimore was a forgotten place.  Today, people still think that East Baltimore is not a great place to live.  But that is no longer true.  The area is definitely on its way up.   The once quaint two and three story row homes are springing to life. Look around today and you will notice that things have changed.   Vacant homes are a rarity and families, professionals and yes, yuppies are moving back in.   Why?  First, there is an 80 acre Biotech Park being built - with mixed use apartments, townhomes, retail, and office planned.   Over 30 acres along Broadway to Patterson Park Ave have already been demolished.   This multi BILLION dollar development has already started to change the landscape around the Hospital.  Additionally, if you haven't noticed - the Hospital is building a massive new building on 1 million square feet off of Orleans.   Over $4 Billion is being invested in East Baltimore - so the City has begun to help out.   The streets are clean, City Services, Security and Police are all over E. Baltimore, and people have begun to notice.   People want to live close to work.  Patterson Park, ample parking, affordable housing, and great value for the living space.   East Baltimore is becoming a gentrified and peaceful place to live.

There are a lot of great blocks in East Baltimore filled with families and employees of the both the Hospital and many of the service providers of the JHMI.  The houses are typically attached row homes with 3 and 4 bedrooms with private fenced in yards.  Our homes are equipped with Security Systems and exterior and lighting.   All of our homes are cable and hi speed ready as well.   Below is map of one of the many free shuttle routes around JHMI.  Many of our homes for rent are near the shuttle route on the right of this map.

Hopkins Security
The Johns Hopkins University Campus Safety and Security manages the security escort van service which is available to all students, faculty and staff from 5:00 P.M. to 3:00 A.M. daily, except certain holidays. This service provides for fixed route service between campus and nearby dorms to select shopping areas frequented by students.

Additionally, service is provided on demand for locations that are not on the fixed route and are within a one-mile radius of the university's Homewood campus. After 10:00 P.M. service is limited to campus to residence transports. Service can be obtained by calling: on-campus 6-8700 and off-campus 410-516-8700.

Other transportation services are managed by the university office of Facilities Management. They include the inter-campus shuttle service (between Homewood and East Baltimore campuses) and Eastern shuttle (between
JHU/Eastern and Homewood and Bloomberg School of Public Health and JHU/eastern). Click on either of the foregoing in the left column for further information and schedules. The office of Parking and Transportation serves as liaison for these services and can be reached at 410-516-7275.
